An Argument for Universal Salvation

  1. God is good
  2. God is omnipotent
  3. It is evil for any person to be punished for something over which that person did not have control, and that person could have been saved from punishment.
  4. All people are born in sin.
  5. If a person is born in sin, that person will be punished.
  6. Person X is born in sin (4).
  7. Person X will be punished (5 & 6).
  8. Person X could not control being born in sin (Person X had no choice).
  9. God can save Person X from punishment (2).
  10. It is evil for Person X to be punished (3 & 9).
  11. Therefore, God commits an evil act (10) unless God saves Person X (1& 2).

Assumptions:

  1. Good is objective and therefore can be known by humans regardless of their ability to carry it out.
  2. Person X is any individual in the world regardless of whether that person has heard any Gospel.
  3. It is possible for God to create a world where people are not born with a sin nature.
